WHAT IS THE MAGNOLIA THANKSGIVING BANQUET?
Since 2009, Sa-Rang Community Church (SRCC) has partnered with Project HERO of the Magnolia School District in Anaheim to provide opportunities for children of low-income families. The Magnolia Thanksgiving Banquet is an annual event to which all the families of the participating children are invited to a great Thanksgiving feast - a privilege that most, if not all, our guests cannot experience otherwise.
There are two main ways you can get involved: donate and/or volunteer.
Donate
You can give financial contributions to the Banquet by writing "Magnolia" on the offering envelopes in person on Sundays, or you can give online by selecting the "Magnolia Camps" sub-fund under the "Designated" fund.
- Sponsor a single child’s camp experience: $75
- Sponsor an entire family's Thanksgiving dinner: $100
Volunteer
Every year it takes 100+ volunteers to make this program possible. There are several ways you can volunteer:
Camp Leader
Camp leaders spend the duration of the camp with the students, leading them through their various activities for the day (workshops, field trips, etc.) and simply forming relationships by getting to know them! There are also opportunities to help lead a workshop on Tuesday.
Sign up deadline: Thursday, Nov. 20
Camp Breakfast Cook/Server
You wouldn't think it, but breakfast is one of the most anticipated parts of camp for the kids! Every year, several students comment how this is one of their favorite parts of camp because their families do not usually have the means to provide these foods at home. As a breakfast cook/server, you will be helping the main team cook and serve breakfast Tuesday and/or Wednesday.
Sign up deadline: Thursday, Nov. 20
Heating Turkeys & Hams
Up until the pandemic, the Magnolia Thanksgiving Banquet has grown to serve nearly 350 people. With limited cooking space at church, we purchase pre-cooked Thanksgiving dinner packages to ensure we can prepare enough food on time. However, all the turkeys and hams that come in these packages must be heated up for the banquet. Heating food requires you to pick up a turkey and/or ham on Tuesday evening and return it by around 3 PM on Wednesday to be ready to plate for the banquet.
Banquet Kitchen Volunteer
With over 350 mouths to feed this year, there's a lot that goes into preparing the banquet meal. Kitchen volunteers are crucial to ensure that all the moving pieces come together for the night's Thanksgiving feast!
Banquet Table Talker
Table Talkers are the most intentional aspect of this event, as we invite you to attend the banquet and spend time with our guests. This way, not only do our guests get to eat a hearty Thanksgiving meal, they are able to interact with our church and get a glimpse of Christ's love. It's not an easy task, but Table Talkers are one of our most important volunteers!
Banquet Server
Servers are the "here for whatever you need" volunteers. Your main responsibility will be to serve food and attend to our guests throughout the night, but we ask that Servers remain the most flexible as you will be our go-to help force for whatever, whenever!
