Yesterday’s Sermon

“Living By Faith in a World of Fear”

Psalm 46

Prof. Eddie Byun, Biola University

As a people of faith, how are we to live by faith in a world with so many fears? Psalm 46 is a great reminder of how we can live.

1. We must remember the presence of God. When we struggle, we must remember God’s presence, that God is peace and God is with us. God is with you through his Spirit and in you by faith. God’s presence in us is strong and He is bigger and stronger than the storms of our lives. He is stronger and mightier than anything we will face in this world. Nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38-39).

2. We must remember the power of God. In the midst of chaos, Jesus is the calm. God reigns and rules over all countries. Like the disciples who were in the midst of the storm, crying out to Jesus for help, at times we also cry out saying “don’t you care about my life?” And Jesus responded to his disciples by saying, “why are you so fearful, you of little faith.” You see, fear and faith correlate with one another. Just as Jesus calmed the storm, let us recognize who He is. God has already written the events of your life from beginning to end, so do not fear.

3. We must remember the providence of God. We don’t need to fear because our God is in control of all. The world is not spinning out of control, but He knows the end. Every second of our life is under the careful watch and sovereign plan of a good God. There is purpose and order behind it all and God is in control and his character is good, kind, and loving. Even listening to this message is a part of God’s ordained hand of providence. God wants you to know that He is good and that we can trust Him. God has made us to love Him and to know Him. Therefore, trust in God for He is good and will take care of you.

Celebrating Everyday Heroes

The pandemic has changed the world. But one thing that remains unchanged is the love of Jesus Christ. We celebrate those who continue to share the hope and love Christ with those who are hurting and broken especially during this time.

Physician Assistant, Centinela Medical Center

We are fighting an invisible war against COVID-19. I work as a physician assistant in Infectious Disease in 2 hospitals at Centinela Medical Center in Inglewood and Southern California Hospital of Culver City. In the 12 years I have been working as a PA, this has been the most challenging year to date. “It’s a fight we can’t win,” I kept saying to myself as we went from our 1st COVID patient in March 2020 to 60+ COVID patients by April. The moment a patient got intubated, we knew it was the beginning of the end. I have felt hopeless, depressed, exhausted, fearful, and overwhelmed. Telling family members that their loved ones are dying and that there’s nothing more you can do for them is emotionally draining. Witnessing patients die without family at their bedside is heartbreaking.

Then came a turning point. More research gave us more knowledge on how to better manage these COVID patients. The patient’s outcome became more promising and mortality rates started to trend down. There was a glimpse of hope. The communities came together to support the front line workers, the nurses, the physicians, and the hospitals. Many different organizations including churches like Sarang Community Church donated thousands of PPE’s when we were in severe shortage. We had individuals making masks by hand to donate to the hospitals and other frontline workers. Local restaurants and businesses donated lunches for the nurses and staff that did not have a proper lunch break on a 12-hour shift. The community sent messages on cards and letters to the physicians and nursing staff to show their love and gratitude.

As we face this 2nd wave of the COVID pandemic, I now know we can win this war. We must fight together as a community, stay at home if at all possible, and pray for those on the frontline.
