God's Love and Care Even in the Smallest Details
Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 12:15-19 (NASB)
15 “However, you may slaughter and eat meat within any of your gates, whatever you desire, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and the deer. 16 Only you shall not eat the blood; you are to pour it out on the ground like water. 17 You are not allowed to eat within your gates the tithe of your grain or new wine or oil, or the firstborn of your herd or flock, or any of your votive offerings which you vow, or your freewill offerings, or the contribution of your hand. 18 But you shall eat them before the Lord your God in the place which the Lord your God will choose, you and your son and daughter, and your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God in all your undertakings. 19 Be careful that you do not forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land.
SUMMARY
In this passage, God gives Moses specific directions regarding slaughtering and eating meat. The Israelites are allowed to eat whatever they want and anywhere they want, whether clean or unclean, except they may not consume the blood (the blood is not to be eaten and it is to be poured onto the ground like water). However, for offerings before the Lord, the instructions are very specific, and they are designated to the place the Lord chooses. From there they shall rejoice before Him in all their undertakings.
MEDITATION & REFLECTION
One would think that menial and daily tasks like eating are negligible, but God prepared specific instructions, and He designated ways for us to carry them out, and honor Him even in these small aspects of our lives.
This realization and observation of how thorough God is, shows me that God cares about every little thing in my life. Nothing is negligible and nothing is unimportant that doesn’t deserve His love or attention. It shows me that God takes care of my every need, in every department, in every way which I feel or see things. Nothing is to be dismissed for lack of importance. It shows me how loving, caring, detail oriented, and perfect God is. Through this, I know He takes care of all the little things that I am not always aware of myself. Oftentimes I may not even realize from being so busy with life.
APPLICATION
God being so conscientious and so intentional in every aspect, makes me wonder, analyze, and assess whether I am seemingly “faithful”only in my “Christian moments”, but perhaps not “all the time”, even in all the little things and aspects that God expects me to honor Him. These include little things such as greeting others with love and respect, or patiently listening to others, to embracingly understand others. It also includes how I take care of myself, how I feed myself, and take care of my body by exercising or stretching. Furthermore, to be aware of things such as God watching and providing for my every emotional and physical need. I commit to be more conscientious, more self aware, and seek ways to honor God in everything I do.
PRAYER
I pray that I will have wisdom to see what You want me to see, so that I may understand Your love, and that I may honor You with my actions. I pray that I can live by your commandments, that I can listen to your decrees, and implement them in my life, so I am always rejoicing in all my undertakings. Help me seek You, love You, find You. I want to dwell in Your place, and share in Your inheritance, for I am so broken without You. God, fill my heart so with the power of Your love, so that I may follow in Your steps.
