It's All About You, Jesus

Scripture Passage: Romans 1:1-7 (NASB)

Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, who was declared the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles in behalf of His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;

to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

SUMMARY

Paul begins his letter to the Romans explaining his identity and role as an apostle chosen by God to spread the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, the Lord Almighty, was born as a man, through the line of David. He died, but resurrected. We are called to believe in His power and obey his commands. This will bring glory to His Name and His Kingdom.

MEDITATION

This introduction to Romans is all about Jesus, and even as Paul introduces this letter and himself, it’s all in relation to who Jesus Christ is and what Jesus is doing through all those who believe in him. Jesus is the focal point and it’s all about Him. He came to us as a man to accomplish a finished and perfect work for us. Also, He chose us, who being Gentiles, knew nothing about the holiness of God, but we can now be part of his kingdom and family. This introduction helps us know what our faith and our lives are all about... It is all about Jesus.

APPLICATION

Recently, I found myself with good intentions trying to be righteous, trying to be good and moral, and trying to do good things for others. I think I was focused on doing things, though they were good things. In just a short time, I felt limitations in my physical energy, strength, and some emotional burdens. I prayed to God, out of repentance and fatigue. God reminded me, “Just look to me”, “Know Jesus Christ more deeply“, “Rest in me, by simply knowing who I am”, “It’s actually all about me, and what I am doing”, “Just rest in me”. I thanked God that it’s all about Him, because I’m not worthy on my own, and there’s nothing good I can do on my own. It’s a huge relief and the burden is off. I will fix my eyes and my focus on Jesus Christ.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that the Bible is first and foremost about you and your goodness. You are so generous to humble yourself and come down from heaven to us, and then let man partake in your glory and kingdom as followers of Christ. May I never separate my identity apart from you. May I never try to do anything on my own, even though I think it’s “good” with my feeble human hands. I rely on you, and rest in your perfection. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
