God's Promises Never Fail

Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 1:1-8 (NASB)

These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel across the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel and Laban and Hazeroth and Dizahab. It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea. In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that the Lord had commanded him to give to them, after he had defeated Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth and Edrei. Across the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses undertook to expound this law, saying,

“The Lord our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Turn and set your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites, and to all their neighbors in the Arabah, in the hill country and in the lowland and in the Negev and by the seacoast, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates. See, I have placed the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to them and their descendants after them.’

SUMMARY

Deuteronomy is a book written by Moses to the younger generations of Israel, who were to enter the promised land that God had prepared for them. Although it would have taken only 11 days on foot to reach the land, because of their disobedience, they had to spend 40 years in the wilderness before entering the land. However, God never fails to keep His promises and His people. He prepared the Israelites’ hearts and minds by giving them victory over the Canaanites with their strong fortress. God helped them to trust in His plans and promises by giving them victory.

MEDITATION & REFLECTION

Just like the Israelites, many of us fail to seek God's plans and promises and try to stick with our own agendas in our lives. I feel like we are just like the Israelites who were wandering in the desert. We hold on to worldly possessions and seek love apart from God and other ways to be received. Especially during these unprecedented times of what we are going through currently, many of us including myself are confused, fearful and living with some type of pain even though we know we have to trust God and His protection. God never gave up on His people. It cost a generation to enter the promised land. But, God never fails. We need to trust God that God wants what is best for us and from us, not what we want is best.

APPLICATION

I will obey. I will seek what God wants from me. Instead of always seeking for protection and comfort in my life and faith journey, I will ask God, trust Him, and obey Him no matter what the circumstances are. I will hold on to the promises that He will make happen and I want to abide in joy by knowing these truths.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank You for giving the book of Deuteronomy to me to study and meditate during this time. I have hope that You are my only God and You know what is best for me. Thank You for reminding me that You never fail to keep Your promises. I will trust in You Lord and I will obey. Show me the way that I may obey and have strong faith, that no circumstances will hinder me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
