God Delivers Just As He Has Promised

Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 3:1-11 (NASB)

“Then we turned and went up the road to Bashan, and Og, king of Bashan, with all his people came out to meet us in battle at Edrei. But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him just as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.’ So the Lord our God delivered Og also, king of Bashan, with all his people into our hand, and we smote them until no survivor was left. We captured all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates and bars, besides a great many unwalled towns. We utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women and children of every city. But all the animals and the spoil of the cities we took as our booty.

“Thus we took the land at that time from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of Arnon to Mount Hermon (Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir): 10 all the cities of the plateau and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 11 (For only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was an iron bedstead; it is in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. Its length was nine cubits and its width four cubits by ordinary cubit.)

SUMMARY

In today’s passage, God speaks to Moses once again to not fear Og, king of Bashan, and therefore occupy his land, smote his people until no survivor is left, and capture all his cities. The Bible describes how these cities were fortified with high walls, gates and bars, and yet how they utterly destroyed them in complete victory as they had done to others in the past.

MEDITATION & REFLECTION

God reminds us that when God delivers His people and His land into our hands, we ought to NOT be afraid, walk in confidence, listen, obey, and claim victory just as He has already prepared for us. I was really blessed by today’s QT remembering that God is a consistent Provider, a faithful Caregiver, a generous Rewarder, a never ending Blessor, and a loving Father, always giving us victory over all He has prepared for us. His inheritance and His love for us as His children, is so good, that I feel convicted of how often in my own anxieties and worries I forget of my identity in Christ.  Just like verse 2 says, “Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him JUST AS YOU DID to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.” God reminds us that taking a leap of faith shouldn’t be hard since God has already led us into victory in the past, so this is NOT our first time.  God reminded me how good He has always been and that I must walk in faith, with confidence, and know that He is God.

APPLICATION

God calls us to believe, to trust, to have conviction that He is God; to not worry, to not be anxious, and be still and know He is God.  Meditating upon verse 2, God reminded me to check my heart, to truly believe, to pray with victory in my heart, and to walk by faith instead of in my own strength.  Checking my heart, I can see how I go back and forth from sort of trusting God to relying on myself, and doing things in my own strength.  I want to grow in the Lord, not fear, and see the deliverance that He promised.  This means, I ought to stop having idle hands, do my part, and trust that God will do His part.

PRAYER

God, we thank You for being such a sovereign, all-powerful God.  I am sorry for my unbelief, my constant lack of trust, and doubting You over and over even after all the miracles, all the deliverances You have made in my life.  I pray that You sanctify me, so I can come before You as I am, that I can listen to Your voice, that I can take Your word into my heart, and that Your faithfulness and Your promises will lead my paths.  God, humble me, give me discipline, bring me closer to You so I can see what You want me to see and carry out Your will in victory.  I know You are always so so good, so help me to always remember, that I may have the right heart, the right attitude, and the right mindset before You.  Thank You for all the victories You will bring into my life that I do not even yet know what they are, for Your plans to prosper me are far better and greater than I could ever imagine.  Thank You for loving me so much, so graciously, so patiently, and faithfully as I know how short of everything I fall all the time, even with Your never ending reminders of Your love.  Thank You for always taking care of me like Your lost child.
