Remember God's Faithfulness
Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 32:7-14 (NASB)
7 Remember the days of old,
Consider the years of all generations.
Ask your father and he will inform you,
Your elders, and they will tell you.
8 When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance,
When He separated the sons of mankind,
He set the boundaries of the peoples
According to the number of the sons of Israel.
9 For the Lord’s portion is His people;
Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance.
10 He found him in a desert land,
And in the howling wasteland of a wilderness;
He encircled him, He cared for him,
He guarded him as the apple of His eye.
11 As an eagle stirs up its nest,
And hovers over its young,
He spread His wings, He caught them,
He carried them on His pinions.
12 The Lord alone guided him,
And there was no foreign god with him.
13 He had him ride on the high places of the earth,
And he ate the produce of the field;
And He had him suck honey from the rock,
And oil from the flinty rock,
14 Curds of the herd, and milk of the flock,
With fat of lambs
And rams, the breed of Bashan, and of goats,
With the best of the wheat;
And you drank wine of the blood of grapes.
SUMMARY
Moses instructs the younger generation to remember the days of old by asking their fathers and elders about life in the wilderness. God chose Israel by giving them their inheritance and setting boundaries of the people. God cared and protected Israel like the apple of His eye. God provided food and resources they needed. It was God alone who chose, protected, and fed Israel in the wilderness.
MEDITATION & REFLECTION
One word that caught my attention while meditating on this passage was “REMEMBER.” These young Israelites were probably too young to remember from the past or they began to forget their lives in the wilderness as time went by. Moses urged them to ask their fathers and elders and to remember how God chose, protected, and provided for them in the wilderness. I often find myself forgetting God’s goodness and faithfulness. When life gets comfortable and everything seems to be working and going well, I fail to remember that it is God who blesses and holds my life together. When I face trials and hardships, I try to seek solutions on my own rather than remembering God’s faithfulness and goodness throughout my life and trusting Him. It is so easy to forget how good and loving my Heavenly Father is. I need to remind myself daily by reading God’s words, meditating on it, and praying so that I will remember that it is God alone who protects and provides.
APPLICATION
I have been pretty consistent with daily Bible reading and quiet time. However, I often feel like I rush and get it done quickly rather than spending quality time with the Lord. Today’s passage convicted my heart to slow down, set a time out of my day, and spend time meditating, praying, and remembering His grace. I will wake up at least 30 minutes early to devote myself to reading, meditating, and praying each day.
PRAYER
Dear God,
Heavenly Father, Thank you for speaking to me through this passage. I confess that I often fail to remember Your faithfulness and goodness and try to live on my own. Please forgive me. You have shown me over and over again that it is You who protects and provides for me and my family. Speak to me daily through your Word and remind me of Your goodness and faithfulness. Help me to devote each morning to you and fill me with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
