God is Calling Us to Pray for the Leaders of Our Country and Our Church
Scripture Passage: Micah 3:9-12 (NASB)
9 Now hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob
And rulers of the house of Israel,
Who despise justice
And twist everything that is straight,
10 Who build Zion with bloodshed,
And Jerusalem with malice.
11 Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe,
Her priests teach for pay,
And her prophets divine for money.
Yet they lean on the Lord, saying,
“Is the Lord not in our midst?
Catastrophe will not come upon us.”
12 Therefore on account of you,
Zion will be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins,
And the mountain of the temple will become high places of a forest.
SUMMARY
Micah speaks against the corruption of the political and religious leaders. They abhor justice and twist what is straight in order to gain material possession through bribery. They even deceive themselves by assuring that God is in the midst of them and no harm will come upon them. However, Micah strongly warns them that Jerusalem will be destroyed as a result of their corruption.
MEDITATION & REFLECTION
The political and religious leaders are supposed to represent God in their service. They are given a privilege to look after people and lead them in the right ways. However, they begin abusing their power and making ungodly choices once they lose sight of God. Greed and selfish desires overtake their ability to think straight and discern what is right and wrong. After meditating on this passage, I am reminded once again that this is the consequences of having sins in our lives. It disconnects us from God and impairs our ability to discern good from evil. We need to carefully examine our hearts and ask the Holy Spirit to help us get rid of any hindrance or sin. We must do our best to guard ourselves from temptations and sins of this world and represent Christ in our lives.
APPLICATION
While meditating on this passage, God reminded me to pray for the leaders of our nation as well as of our church. Our country and our church are preparing to step into a new chapter and season in the year 2021 and are currently going through transition. Transition and change are never easy, and we need to cover them with prayers. I will include them in the list of my prayer topics and pray for the political leaders of our country and Holywave pastors this month.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I lift up leaders of our country and Holywave pastors today. I pray for Your guidance and discernment on leadership especially during this time of transition. Some may feel anxious and insecure about transition. May your word dwell in us richly and your peace fill us each day. You alone are the Good shepherd (Psalm 23:1). I ask that you will take our country and Holywave by Your hand and lead us. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
