Though I Fall I Will Rise
Scripture Passage: Micah 7:7-13 (NASB)
7 But as for me, I will be on the watch for the Lord;
I will wait for the God of my salvation.
My God will hear me.
8 Do not rejoice over me, enemy of mine.
Though I fall I will rise;
Though I live in darkness, the Lord is a light for me.
9 I will endure the rage of the Lord
Because I have sinned against Him,
Until He pleads my case and executes justice for me.
He will bring me out to the light,
And I will look at His righteousness.
10 Then my enemy will see,
And shame will cover her who said to me,
“Where is the Lord your God?”
My eyes will look at her;
At that time she will be trampled down
Like mud of the streets.
11 It will be a day for building your walls.
On that day your boundary will be extended.
12 It will be a day when they will come to you
From Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
From Egypt even to the Euphrates River,
Even from sea to sea and mountain to mountain.
13 And the earth will become a wasteland because of her inhabitants,
On account of the fruit of their deeds.
SUMMARY
In this passage, Israel waits expectantly for the Lord as the Lord is God of salvation and God hears His people. Israel declares to her enemies that “though I fall I will rise” knowing with confidence that God will bring Israel out of darkness. Israel recognizes the tribulation she is going through is a result of her own sin, placing hope in the timely deliverance of the Lord.
The enemies who were asking, “where is the Lord your God?” will be crushed like mud on the ground when they see the light of the Israel.
MEDITATION & REFLECTION
This passage reminded me of how God is so faithful to us. He restores us even after we go on our way forgetting about God, pursue lifestyle not honoring Him, and we ultimately sin against Him. It reminded me of the depth of God’s patience and love as He even goes after Israel’s enemies who rejoiced over Israel’s tribulation.
I was humbled to see that even though what Israel was going through was a consequence of her own sin, God bears her sin and still comes back to rescue in His grace. He did not “abandon” Israel, but He “waited” for Israel to atone for her sins, and come back to God. God is the one who would never abandon His people.
God’s faithfulness in this passage made me think about my unfaithfulness to Him. I go through ups and downs, the struggles in my life at work, in relationships, and sometimes forget that God is with me. I’ve tried to handle things in my own ways, through my own eyes not pursuing what God would want me to do in those situations. I need to look at my life looking through His eyes.
APPLICATION
God reminded me that it is through His grace and mercy alone that I can humble myself and come back to Him. Deliverance only comes from Him. He reminded me to be grateful about the circumstances that brought crisis in my life. During that time, in my shortcomings I turned to sin, but He turned it around and restored it to opportunities in my life. God reminded me to be thankful for all the blessings in my life realizing that He is the provider of everything I need physically and spiritually, including the community of people that He has placed in my life to lead me back to Him.
PRAYER
God,
I thank you for loving me, restoring me, and always bringing me back to you. Though I may fall, you always raise me up even higher. You are such a generous, merciful God. I am always humbled by the way you move in my life. Give me spiritual eyes so I may see what you see, not what I see or what I want to see in my limited capacity. Help me understand, see, and accept your ways so I can be disciplined, refined by fire made into the person who you created me to be.
Help me to be patient, loving, understanding, embracing, empathetic to the ones you have blessed me with so that I learn to share the love and grace you have given me. Help me forgive all the little things that build up in me that I struggle to overcome, so I am not living in bondage to sin, but in the freedom of your love. Help me overcome all the spiritual warfare that come my way that I can identify what the enemy is doing, and then I can focus on your plans, your inheritance, your ways, and your deliverance and restoration.
Thank you for never letting me go, for always keep pressing on me so that I overcome, come back to you, and live as a faithful servant of your love.
