Arrogance Will Surely Be Struck Down

Scripture Passage: Acts 12:20-25 (NASB)

20 Now he was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one mind they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because their country was supported with grain from the king’s country. 21 On an appointed day, after putting on his royal apparel, Herod took his seat on the rostrum and began delivering an address to them. 22 The people repeatedly cried out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

24 But the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned when they had fulfilled their mission to Jerusalem, taking along with them John, who was also called Mark.

SUMMARY

This passage shows how King Herod died. It reflects how the people honored him and praised him as a god. He did not honor God, so he was struck dead and was eaten by worms.

MEDITATION AND REFLECTION

This passage showed me the condition of my heart, reflecting the same arrogance King Herod held, disregarding and dismissing God in many parts of my life, not understanding and seeing God’s grace, mercy and blessings.

APPLICATION

This week, I hope to “give the glory to God” remembering that everything I am, everything that I have, everything that I have accomplished, came from God.

PRAYER

God, help me see what you see, help me put my arrogance and my ways down, that I will honor you the way you are to be honored, that I will remember who you are, who you have been, how you have walked me through the valley of death, how you delivered me from the hands of the enemy, and how you set me free.

God help me put you in my life where you correspond, on the throne, so that I am humbled, I am blessed, and I remember how you saved me and how much you loved me.
