Yesterday’s Sermon

“The Blessing of God”

Psalm 127:1-5

Missionary Yong-Ui Kim, World Mobile Mission

There are two types of people who don’t find joy in life: People who couldn’t hear the gospel and Sunday Christians who know the gospel but don’t truly understand it. The Bible tells us that we are not our own. We belong to God. We cannot bear fruit apart from God even if we were to try our best. Apart from God, true joy in life is impossible.

Today’s text goes so far as to say even the most important part of our lives, family, is in need of God’s provision. In the book of Judges, we see that the Israelites lose their children after a glorious time of conquering the Promised Land. Even though they passed on great physical inheritance, they failed to pass on spiritual inheritance. They failed in their most important work. Apart from God, you could be gaining a house but losing your family. You could be compiling great inheritance for your children but they may miss out on the most important spiritual inheritance because their lives will not be truly meaningful apart from God.

On the other hand, we know that when a family does walk with God, God does three things. First, God will build the house; He will provide the necessary blessings. Second, God will provide true joy, true rest and true meaning. Third, God will reveal His glory and salvation to the future generation. This is the family that God had in His heart when He brought Adam and Eve together. We see the perfect example of sacrificial love that supports one another and builds each other’s faith which leads to the prosperity of mankind according to God’s design.

How then can we see this work of God in our family? Only when God becomes Lord over our family. Since we are broken people living with broken people, this is only through the redeeming power of Jesus Christ. We need God’s blessing of Jesus Christ to experience this perfect power of God in our family. Through this power, we can fully commit ourselves to God’s will. That is when we will see God’s design for family come to life.

Celebrating Everyday Heroes

The pandemic has changed the world. But one thing that remains unchanged is the love of Jesus Christ. We celebrate those who continue to share the hope and love Christ with those who are hurting and broken especially during this time.

Through this year’s wonderfully tumultuous transition to distance learning, God has taught me that my identity cannot rest in being a teacher. My worth does not come from the fact that I’m able to orchestrate the best classroom management procedures. My wholeness does not depend on the number of students that obtain passing scores on standardized assessments. My security does not rest in my efforts to implement cutting-edge digital engagement tools while delivering a virtual lesson. If my identity is not centered on the truth that Jesus Christ died for me on the cross and rose again, then I will lose any God-given ability to reach and cover my students in the deepest hour of their need. I would be so fixated on myself, absorbed by the fact that I need to prove myself to administrators who themselves are fixtures operating under the umbrella of an imperfect American education system. What my students need right now (and what I need to keep reminding myself) is not a perfect English lesson. What they need is a person who warmly smiles at them and seeks to grasp the weight of the transition on their families. It’s hard to be that person each time my 7th graders greet me with silence when I ask them to open their Google Doc. It’s a struggle when I know they’re tempted by the glow of their smartphones. At the end of the day though, they’re growing middle-school students. God wants me to look toward him daily for help in wisely loving each child He has put under my care. He is asking me to humbly lay aside any feeling of helplessness and to stop complaining about how futile Zoom lessons are for students who have always hated reading and writing. He is in control.

“I will never cease to worship God regardless of my circumstances”

Tyron K, k-Jr. High (8th)

Ever since I was born, I began to attend Teuk-Sae with my family. Teuk-Sae was a special time of the year for me. As a family, we were focusing only on God during the holiday season. Teuk-Sae means that we as a family pray wholeheartedly to God and seek his face. This year, the pandemic affected my spiritual life slightly. It has brought me closer to God because I was able to find more time to read the Bible and meditate on his word. Also, the DT class and 전도사님’s surprise visit encouraged me to stay focused on God. However, the online service made me feel isolated from the Church congregation. I miss worshiping God together with my friends at Sa-Rang Church.

Even though I attend Teuk-Sae online this year, I am grateful that I can still worship, praise and pray to God. As Senior Pastor said, I will never cease to worship God regardless of my circumstances. I pray that God will bless my dad’s business and keep our families safe and healthy. I also pray for my grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts, and other relatives. I thank God for the church and Teuk-Sae. Although this year is different from other years, I expect that God will bless our church greatly and heal us through prayers and praises.
