God's Promises Will Be Fulfilled

Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 7:17-26 (NASB)

17 “If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’ 18 you shall not be afraid of them; you shall well remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: 19 the great trials which your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. So shall the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. 20 Moreover, the Lord your God will send the hornet against them, until those who are left and hide themselves from you perish. 21 You shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God. 22 The Lord your God will clear away these nations before you little by little; you will not be able to put an end to them quickly, for the wild beasts would grow too numerous for you. 23 But the Lord your God will deliver them before you, and will throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed. 24 He will deliver their kings into your hand so that you will make their name perish from under heaven; no man will be able to stand before you until you have destroyed them. 25 The graven images of their gods you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. 26 You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the ban; you shall utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned.

SUMMARY

In this passage, the Lord speaks to the Israelites, encouraging them and reaffirming His promise, and reminding them to seek Him only.

MEDITATION & REFLECTION

This passage tells us about God’s blessings when we listen and obey I love the way the Lord started his exhortation - “IF you should say in your heart, these nations are greater than I, how can I dispossess them?” - In other words, if you look at your reality, and start to doubt God's promise, if you look at your circumstance and see that it is so far from the reality that God has promised, instead of doubting, “you shall not be afraid of them; you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all of Egypt.”

I think I am so moved by this encouragement to stay faithful, and to stay close, because God knows that this process will not be easy for the Israelites. At times, reality might be overwhelming. At times, they’ll look around and wonder how it could possibly be done. But - “you shall not be afraid, you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all of Egypt.” God's promises will be fulfilled. He will fulfill them. He is in our midst, a great and powerful God. He will fulfill, little by little, because he is a faithful God. He goes before us, and delivers us, over and over again.

He ends with a warning to not be swayed by other gods. The whole passage is a reminder of God's faithfulness. It is also an encouragement to stay faithful, in both difficult times, and the times when they are surrounded by so many riches and temptations.

APPLICATION

To see with eyes of faith, and reaffirm God's promises in my heart, to trust and know who He is, that He is true, regardless of circumstances. That what I see is not the truest reality. The Lord is trustworthy, kind and faithful. I want to be so, so faithful too.

PRAYER

Lord, thank you for reminding us time and time again, that Your ways are greater than our ways, and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Thank you for the way You confide in us about Your plans that we may remember Your faithfulness, and keep it in our hearts, hopeful in the truth of Christ on the cross. Lord, keep our eyes fixed on You. Speak to us, open our ears, that we may hear. And teach us to see through eyes of faith, and draw us close. I pray that in my times of doubt, I will cast it off, and instead, I will stand in faith and declare Your faithfulness over my heart and my circumstance. We want to know you!!!!! Amen!!!
